Nurses' Prayers

Prayers are powerful tools that can be used by every human being. It is a way of communication between a person and the Supreme Creator.By prayer, a person can be guided into a right path by the holy providence.

A prayer can be recited or murmured every where at anytime.Nurses who do not forget to pray when they go on duty have a great edge on other co-nurses. Here are the different nurses' prayers that I have compiled from so many sources:

O my God, teach me to receive
the sick in your name. Give to
my efforts success for the glory
of your holy name.

It is your work; without you,
I cannot succeed.

Grant that the sick you have
placed in my care may be
abundantly blessed, and not
one of them be lost because
of any neglect on my part.

Help me to overcome, every
temporal weakness, and
strengthen in me whatever
may enable me to bring joy
to the lives of those I serve.

Give me grace, for the sake of
your sick ones and of those lives
that will be influenced by them.

Amen.

------------------------------------------------------

As I care for my patients today,
be there with me O Lord I pray.
Make my words kind,
It means so much.
And in my hands,
place Your healing touch.
Let Your love shine
Through all that I do
So those in need may hear and feel You.

Amen.

-----------------------------------------------------

Dear Jesus, model and inspiration of the nursing profession,
I know that when you ascended into heaven,
You left the care of the sick to those of us
whom You have blessed with the Holy Vocation of nursing.
Please help me to be faithful to that calling so that
I can always do the things you want me to do
and in the manner that you want me to do them.

Grant that my voice be gentle, that my hands may have the softness
and sympathy of Your hands. That my presence may bring something
for the hope and consolation, which Your presence
brought to the sufferers of Your day.

I want to do all these things Lord, but I know that I am weak
and can do little without Your aid. Please give that aid this day
and everyday of my life so that I can always be what You want me to be,
an angel of the sick room. Amen.

-----------------------------------------------------

Dear Lord, please give me strength,
To face the day ahead.

Dear Lord, please give me courage,
As I approach each hurting bed.

Dear Lord, please give me wisdom
With every word I speak.

Dear Lord, please give me patience,
As I comfort the sick and weak.

Dear Lord, Please give me assurance,
As the day slips into night.

That I have done the best I can,
That I have done what's right.

Amen.
-----------------------------------------------------

When I falter, give me courage.
When I tire, renew my strength.
When I weaken because I'm human,
Inspire me on to greater length.
If doctors and patients become demanding,
And days are too short for all my duty,
Help me remember I chose to serve,
To do so with grace, and spiritual beauty.
In humility, Lord, I labour long hours,
And though I sometimes may fret;
My mission is mercy.
Abide with me, that I may never forget.
Amen.

--------------------------------------------------

Be me in the world.
Be my voice to the deaf.
Be my faith where there is doubt.
Be my hope where there is despair.
Be my light where there is darkness.
Be my joy where there is sadness.
Be me in the world.

Be my eyes to the blind.
Be my consolation to those who need to be consoled.
Be my understanding to those who need to be understood.
Be my healing to those who need to healed.
Be my love to those who need love.
Be my forgiveness to those who need to be forgiven.
Be my death to those who need me.
Be me in the world.

---------------------------------------------------

Lord, may I see you today and everyday in the person of the sick
and while nursing them minister unto you. Though you hide yourself
behind the irritable, the exacting and the unreasonable,
may I still see you and recognize you and say, "Jesus my patient, "how sweet it is to serve you". Lord, give me that seeing faith that my work will never become monotonous,
that I may always find a new joy in humoring and gratifying the works of the poor sufferers.

Dear Lord, make me appreciate the dignity of the high vocation
and its many responsibilities and never permit me to disgrace it
by giving way to coldness, unkindness or impatience. And my God, since you
are Jesus my patient, please be patient with my many faults
and look only to my intention which is always to serve you in the person
of each and every one of the sick.
Lord increase my faith, bless my effort and sanctify my work now and forever. Amen.
